September ....Fall approaches....

As Summer ends and we make our way into Fall. We here at SCDS want to remind everyone not to forget about the fleas! Flea eggs can stay dormant for months leading to a re infestation or problem as the weather warms up in the spring. Here are some things that you can do in the fall.

1. keep up the flea treatments on your pets. maintaining the regiment will help you and your furry friends.
2. wash your pets bedding. Everyone loves clean sheets, including the pooch!
3. vacuum carpets under the furniture and along the baseboards. This is where the flea eggs tend to hide out!
4. Bring surf doggies in for a Spaw Day. We will give them the fall clean up!

Back home And Ready to Groom!

Well we have returned from Super Zoo with lots of great information and new Techniques! Reese competed in the Rescue Rodeo which is a grooming competition with dogs from the local rescues that need a grooming make over for adoption! Reese had a wonderful terrier mix that she cleaned up and mad look extra cute the pooch was so relaxed and easy going that it spent down time asleep in Reese's arms! I made a ton of contacts for new product and learned some new grooming techniques! We are both glad that we took the time to attend. Now its back to the Shop! Suds Up, Surf Doggies!

Super Zoo in Vegas Doggies!

well we are off to Super Zoo in Las Vegas, NV. This is a trade show for pet retailers and groomers. Reese is competing in the Rescue Rodeo competition and I am attending several seminars on coat and skin care. We are both looking for great new ways to help and care for our customers and their Surf Doggies! So with that Surf City Dog Spaw will be closed September 13 & 14, 2011. Final plumbing inspection is scheduled for Monday!

Well we have a working tub and a small issue with the second tub that will be resolved Monday. The final plumbing inspection will be Monday as well. Then it will be to get the certificate of occupancy and we can officially start accepting Surf Doggies! yay! There are a few small but easy details that need to be finished like base boards and trim. We spent the day cleaning and setting the place up. Still a lot to do but MQ agave and we are soooooo close!

Plumbing!

Well we finally received a permit and the plumbing was installed. City is requiring a few alterations but we should have working tubs really soon! In the mean time, we have been working on some painting , bead board, and trim. Suds up, Surf doggie!

Wall up!

We prepped the wall for texture today. We will be giving the shop a fresh coat of paint on Thursday. It looks like our plumbing permit will be approved by the inspector in the next day or so. This is a great relief! With that happening things will move at a much faster pace.

On the personal side we met a lot of great people in the community who have checked in to see our progress. We thank you for the words of encouragement and support!

Hydrosurge!

Well, we ordered the Hydrosurge bathing system and products today! This is a great addition to our bathing tubs. The Hydrosurge system takes the shampoo, and mixes it with air and water to create a gentle massaging action during the bathing process. This helps get the dogs cleaner quicker! And all the shampoos are environmentally friendly and contain natural botanicals. I can't wait to bathe my first doggie!

Thursday, July 7
Well things are moving pretty fast at Surf City Dog Spaw this week. We will have a wall and doors the electrical is good. The hold up is the plumbing permit. The city is a bit backlogged, they told us a week or so but once the plans are approved that will happen very quickly! Yay! So now we move into the acquisition of cages and supplies!

Permits and a Contractor! oooooh the bank account.......

Started at the bank..... why do the require a blood transfusion and your first born to open a bank account? Its done but the questions..... Whats your SS? Where do you live ? Are you a citizen? are you going to withdrawl more than $8000 in cash? ( its our money we should be able to get it all in cash) Evidently, the banks need to ensure that a dog grooming shop isn't going to be funding or supporting unlawful organizations. who knew??
The morning progressed with the following.....
Well we have a Contractor officially hired with a deposit down. Permits for the building and the electrical, plumbing will need drawings to be done before permit can be pulled. Our contractor was confident this could be obtained without hassle. I have to say the City Planning and Building Dept is efficient and easy to work with. They take the time to explain and help you which i have found to be a delight!
We also had the Vios phonelines pulled today. phone and internet installed on Wednesday.
now for a sign and to submit the application for the resale permit!

So. CA Edison said..... "Let there be light!"

Well folks, we have power and everything seems to be in order. Business cards are on their way and we should have them next week and the demo has started. We still are reviewing contractor bids. Hopefully we will have someone lined up Friday to start early next week.

We have keys!

Well today we took possession of the shop! We also met with a contractor. But still NO POWER! Hopefully that will be resolved Tuesday morning. We are both sooooooooo excited! There is still a ton to do before we can open 7/15. Wish us luck!

Our first post......

hi everyone, well this is the first post of the Surf City Dog Spaw. We will be keeping you up to date on the trials and tribulations of opening a dog grooming shop.

here's what we have so far..... Business Plan, LLC, EIN, business license started, cert of occupancy started , liability insurance and a location! Pretty good for the first week!

Demo and contractor are the next step! Anyone know a good fast contractor?
